a new trend, according to industry analysts, is that potential home buyers are looking for properties that can easily be shared with extended family members, roommates, or even rented out. In fact 13 percent of recent buyers purchased their home specifically to provide living space for multiple generations. 25 percent of buyers would like a separate suite – with a kitchenette – to accommodate extended family member or roommates.
A survey by TRI Pointe reports that 35 percent of young adults want to actually rent out space in their homes, at least occasionally, to help off set expenses.
None of this is too surprising, of course, with the soaring price of real estate in most markets.
