A recent survey of over 2,000 home buyers who have purchased a property in the last two years reveals that most still follow the traditional methods while a surprising percentage are using more unorthodox methods in their real estate transactions.
For example, 20% of would-be homebuyers made an offer on a house without actually visiting it in person. Moreover, 17 percent purchased a home without using an agent; in most cases because the buyers and sellers were already acquainted. Finally, 33 percent of buyers who worked with an agent received a refund or commission savings from their broker.
Of course, all this data means that 80 percent of buyers still visit their prospective home; more than 80 percent us a traditional agent etc. It also shows that unconventional and creative methods for purchasing a home are on the increase.
