According to a recent report by Curbed SF there a million more jobs in the Bay Area than there are housing units. The report states that there are 3.6 million employed people across the nine-county Bay area in 2016 and just 2.6 million housing units.
The two largest cities in the Bay Area – San Francisco and San Jose – have the poorest jobs to housing ration with San Francisco having 154,595 more jobs than housing units and San Jose faring even worse with 203,576 more jobs than it does homes.
County-wide, Santa Clara County currently has almost 300,000 more jobs than places for their workers to live.
