According to an analysis by realtor.com on the hottest housing markets in 2017 the Bay Area dominated the top three positions:

1. Vallejo-Fairfield metropolitan area
2. San Francisco
3. San Jose

San Jose has been the top housing market in the country for the last three months with prices up 25 percent year over year in November.

California has 11 of the top 20 housing markets.
