When the weather heats up, more and more homeowners are turning to ceiling fans to keep things cool indoors. Many are finding this much more cost-effective than air conditioning and much easier on the environment as well.
A ceiling fan doesn’t actually make a room cooler; by generating a breeze it cools the occupants in the room.
When buying a fan:
- Match the square footage of the space to be cooled with the proper blade span. In general, the larger the room, the greater the blade span.
- The greater the distance between the ceiling and the blades of the fan, the better the circulation. 8-10 inches is the advised minimum.
- More blades are not necessarily better as they can create a drag. Many consider three blades to be optimum.
