When buying an older home

February 4, 2021 By Geoffrey Disch Leave a Comment

For many, the allure of an older home is undeniable: the charm, the beauty, the character. But, as with all things, aging can have its pitfalls. A few things to consider before purchasing an older home:

  • The foundation: A band. foundation means the structural stability of the home is compromised which can be a huge expense down the road. Check this first.
  • Plumbing: Plumbing in poor condition can also be a huge expense as time goes on. Get an accurate assessment of the condition of the plumbing.
  • Electrical system: Outdated equipment should be updated before you move in.
  • Energy efficiency: Newer homes are much more energy efficient. Get an accurate idea of the home’s insulation as well as the efficiency of older appliances.
